Now that fall is in full swing, we’re starting to see an increase in the sniffles. Whether your child is at a daycare in Springfield or at your home, keeping them healthy through cold and flu season can be a challenge. If you’re looking for ways to boost your child’s health through this season, Discoverie by Vinci School has a few tips that can help prepare you and your little one!

Eat the Rainbow

A good diet is key to keeping your immune system healthy. While processed food may taste great, it’s often lacking in nutrition. Encourage your child to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables throughout the cold season. Strawberries, oranges, broccoli, and green peppers all contain high amounts of vitamin C to help you boost your immune system.

Wash Your Hands

Kids touch everything. After all, who can blame them? It’s part of the learning process. To help combat against the germs they may pick up, encourage them to wash their hands before eating, touching their face, or rubbing their eyes. A little soap and warm water will rid their hands of harmful germs. For best results, your child should scrub their hands for 30 seconds before rinsing the soap away. Singing a song like “Happy Birthday” can help them keep track of the time.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep is absolutely vital in maintaining a healthy immune system. Adults generally need between seven and nine hours a night while children benefit from nine to twelve hours each night. Try to stick to your child’s bedtime to establish good routines and encourage their body’s natural sleep cycles. In fact, setting a regular bedtime for yourself may be helpful in ensuring you get enough sleep. Don’t be tempted to stay up and watch one more episode of your favorite show. Save it for the next day and get some rest!

We hope these tips help you and your child stay healthy this fall! For more information on how we keep our classrooms clean, call Discoverie by Vinci School in Springfield!
