Curriculum

Our “Explorers” and “Discovering Me” Curriculum is developed for the Rocket Room and is designed to encourage and reinforce each toddler’s individual curiosity during their own development stage. Children participate in sensory-based learning experiences, while receiving positive and nurturing guidance. At Discoverie School, our toddlers learn throughout the day through exploration, guided play, and creative experiences. Discoverie School continuously partners with parents to reinforce what your child is being taught at home. Our curriculum will help your child develop their cognitive, communication, emotional, fine motor, gross motor, and social skills.

Activities

The “Explorers” toddler curriculum focuses on your toddler’s primary areas of development. Our teachers encourage the child to work at their own speed so they feel successful in the skills they are developing.

Academically focused lessons include:
    • Montessori
    • Common Core based curriculum
    • Emilio Reggio
    • Award winning learning with individual milestones

Important Skills:

  • Fine Motor Skills
Toddlers’ fine motor skills include finger and hand movements. Your child will be encouraged in many different ways in order for them to progress. Discoverie School offers a wide variety of activities for your child to develop his or her fine motor skills. These include finger painting, using a pincer grasp to pick up finger foods, and making and manipulating clay.
  • Gross Motor Skills
“Discovering Me” focuses on all gross motor skills, which include batting at objects, kicking, walking, and running. Children will be encouraged to bat at beach balls suspended from the ceiling to increase their jumping skills, as well as improve their hand/eye coordination. You might even see toddlers playing “Follow the Leader.”
  • Emotional Skills
“Discovering Me” assists toddlers with exploring all of their emotions, from joy to frustration. Children begin to gain the skills needed, such as patience, cooperation, and sharing to deal with all of their burgeoning emotions in a calm, supportive manner.
  • Social Skills
“Discovering Me” strives to instill pro-social skills, also known as “people skills.” We start with the toddlers becoming aware of their classmates and move on to encouraging simple sharing activities. Your child will be encouraged to wave goodbye and take turns stacking blocks. These simple activities are the stepping stones for the later preschool years, when children are developmentally ready to share.
  • Communication Skills
Discoverie School’s teachers spend a vast amount of time with the children, speaking, singing, playing, and encouraging. Communication is developed through interaction and engagement. Language skills are an important part of our children’s stages. Our teachers participate every way possible to nurture this skill.
  • Cognitive Skills
Cognitive skills include thinking, learning, and the accumulation of knowledge. “Discovering Me” focuses on toddlers’ investigation of their environment. Your toddler will begin to sort toys by shape and color, and will be encouraged to identify facial features by reciting fun finger plays.
